‘Be My Hope’ Music Video In Partnership With Fields Of Life By Nathan Jess

Published on December 21st, 2011

Having released his debut single a couple of weeks ago, people are starting to discover just how talented a singer/songwriter Nathan Jess is. And if ‘I Am Redeemed’ is the first into the witness box, then the song ‘Be My Hope’ is exhibit B.

‘Be My Hope’ works on many levels. As a carefully crafted song, it is disciplined, measured and powerful. But there’s more to it than a near-perfect melody and poetic lyrics… If you watch the video, the lyrics will start to hit home a little bit more and the true essence of what the song is about will definitely become apparent.

“I partner with a charity that works in East Africa called Fields of Life,” says Nathan. “They mostly build schools and dig wells. I was there in May 2011 exploring their projects and filming the video of ‘Be My Hope’ – having recorded it with their children’s choir. The song shows a similar model of poetic story telling in the verses with a simple chorus crying out for Jesus to be our only hope.”

It’s an incredibly powerful song, and one that beautifully illustrates not only the life and vibrancy found among the people of Uganda, but the great work that Fields Of Life carry out. It might sound abstract and ambitious, but in the collision between worship, art and social justice there are deeply powerful forces at work.
