August saw England break out in riots seeing cities and towns burned, trashed and the streets abondoned through fear. Shops were looted and sadly lives were lost.

One of the places hit the worst by the riots was Croydon and in response to what happened, the Croydon Youth Development Trust have planned a day-long festival will take place in two venues in Croydon this Sunday (18/9/11), beginning with an afternoon of acoustic music in the Green Dragon before an evening of Pop, Rock and Soul at Scream Lounge. The event is free to attend but audience members will be invited to donate towards Croydon Youth Development Trust, a charity which aims to provide activities and support for the borough’s young people.

MOBO-nominated Gospel rapper Faith Child has been announced as the headline artist for the event which is awesome and will see him put on a a platform to spread the Gospel at a non Christian event truly being a light in his local community and exposing prople to the message of Christ.

The organisation was chosen in light of last month’s riots that left Croydon in flames, in the hope that the community can look forward and build something positive from the destruction.

Riot Aid, also known as the Croydon Clean-Up Crawl, will begin with acoustic music downstairs at the Green Dragon, in the High Street, Croydon, at 3.30pm. Doors open at the Scream Lounge at 7pm.

Organisers Rob Garratt and Gareth Davies said: “The response to our call for bands and acts to perform for free at Riot Aid has been fantastic.

“A lot of talented people have jumped at the chance to do something positive in the wake of last month’s riots.

“We hope the event shows the strength of community spirit and highlights what makes Croydon worth caring about.”
