Remembering Marvin McQuitty

marvinmcquitty

This morning we woke to the sad news that our friend, Marvin McQuitty, had passed away overnight. Marvin was someone we were proud to call our friend, someone we looked up to and someone who taught us so much about music, ministry and what it really means to be called to be a levite.

He was a mentor, friend, example, inspiration and so much more. It speaks for the character of this amazing man that his role as drummer for the likes of Fred Hammond, The Clark Sisters, Cece Winans and many more is one of the last things that we are referring to, such was his character, his spirit and his reputation.

He’ll be sadly missed by the music community, his many friends and his wife, Kim and their two daughters Marielle and Simone.

Please leave your memories, comments and messages of support for Kim and the family below, we will be compiling them and passing them on.

Rest in Peace Uncle Marv, you will always be missed.

Marvin’s memorial service will be held on Monday 17th September 2012 at Grace Church Of Humble in Houston TX.

You moved us not only with your gift of playing – but who God built you up to become. Thank you for inspiring me as a foreigner to the music world, but a brother in the christian world.
    May we reunite some day.
Love and prayers to your family – keep standing.

    Jai (New Zealand)

Marvin was like a brother to me. When I began my 3 year journey with Fred Hammond he made sure that Shaunee Parker-Brannan ( a former RFC singer) and I was learning the ropes and was okay. We’ve keep in touch through out the years. Our last conversation was the week of his birthday.. no matter how long it’s been since the last time we talked, it was always like no time has been missed. I will miss him dearly!! My prayers are with Kim and the girls!! RIP Dear friend, you were truly a Blessing to those who have meet you!!

He was my mentor and I admired him so much. I would always go and play my purpose by design vhs and learn every lick on the tape. I’m honored to say that I accomplished that. I learned so much through his style of playing. He was always my favorite drummer. No matter what people said I was proud to call home my mentor. Today I cried so hard thinking about him. He will surely be missed by me. His legacy will continue through my music. God bless all.
