UK Urban Rapper Rio Young Releases Portrait EP

Fresh from releasing the freestyles ‘Waves’ & ‘Amsterdam’ – which were consistently supported by Shortee Blitz & DJ MK from the Kiss FM Hip-Hop show – Rio Young is proud to present his debut EP, ‘Portrait’.

‘Portrait’ is produced by Nathaniel ‘Detonate’ Ledwidge who is Labrinth’s lead keyboard player and has produced for the likes of Conor Maynard & Tyler James. Rio has received initial support from the likes of Rickie & Melvin (Kiss FM Breakfast Show / BBC Three ‘Sweat The Small Stuff’), The Dixon Brothers (Kiss FM), Ras Kwame (Capital Xtra), Ronnie Herell (BBC 1Xtra), SB:TV and influential bloggers such as ‘This Kid Is A Problem’ and ‘Dropout UK’.

Rio Young is 22-years-old and from North East London. He recently graduated from the University Of East London, where he studied BA Hons in Music Culture and has worked extensively within the youth sector. Rio has visited a variety of schools, PRUs (Pupil Referral Units) and prisons with an organisation called ‘Spark 2 Life’, aiming to empower and encourage disengaged young people from underprivileged sections of society.

Rio started making music in 2008 alongside a group called ‘Da Fellowship’. Since then, he’s been flying solo and working hard to evolve his own unique sound. Rio has had the pleasure of performing alongside some of the UK’s most established Grime acts, most recently supporting the likes of Akala and Josh Osho at London’s O2. He is currently prepping for a UK wide schools tour to promote his new material to a core demographic of new fans.

Rio is a talented and versatile young rapper and his new material is cutting edge and inspired. Welcome to the beginning of this exciting new journey.
